QED cloning.

Recent chats with other QED owners has resulted in a way to reprogram (clone) QED settings.
Without going into too much detail, it's just finding a QED with the Aug19 software package (for PL3) and an early PL4.
Copying the onboard software, and transferring it to another machine.
At this stage  adjustments or changes to the code would be trial and error to determine what does what, so no extra adjustments can be made.

The hope is to clone some of those QEDs sitting unused in cupboards or upgraded by Howard to non functioning, and at least make them a usable machine. Something that can be sold as a working detector (not much value in them at the moment) without the seller feeling guilt, or the buyer feeling ripped off.
 (sold to put money towards an E1500 )

edit: pic programmers are readily available and not expensive, should anyone else have the nouse to do it themselves.

Despite Bugwhiskers/Howard Rockey's claims, it's not that big a deal.
No code change or unlocking is required, just a copy. Like cut and paste.
While I'm sure he will jump up and down.. It's already been done
We are just looking for a suitable machine with the right software to copy.
Also looking into having AI write some new coding as was advised to Howard a while back. He refused the help.
But this will take longer without Howards original database software.
It would be a matter of changing code, then seeing the effect to work out what's what.

Sorry Howard, you just take too long and are too slow with testing. People are sick of waiting on your empty promises.

Despite claims of copywrite by misinformed other forums.

It's no different to building or changing software on a PC or moving a program from one pc to another, using aftermarket versions of firmware on your phone, or even working on your own car, changing or modifying the engine management system etc.

Hello, will be dropping both my QED boxes for experimentation this week.

I don't have a time frame at this point, as we are looking at giving AI a shot at the puzzle.
But I will endeavour to keep you informed of any positive moves forward.

Who knows, there could be aftermarket QED downloads available....Just say'n..

Cheers, have donated my 2 paperweights (dropped them off on the weekend) to the cause for a few trials and bug chasing. Will let you know.

Took a while, even with that video, for more than a Band-Aid fix. Which is essentially what the bit of tape used beneath the PL4 handle was, used to solve the problem, until the plastics were changed.
Then it was carbon paint inside the box, because the plastic offered no EMI shielding.
And when that wasn't enough, a capacitor and other software changes were required. Each step costing a performance drop until we reached our current evolution.
Then instead of trying to resolve that issue, tracking was thrown out as a smokescreen, while upgraded machines were left in cupboards and finds dried up....
The means just didn't justify the long wait for the ends.

Even PL4 users were trying to go backwards to a noisier machine that found Colour, instead of a quiet machine that didn't.
But Howard can't do it!
